I let go of the words between us

So darkness would not plague us I set you free

But I thought about your words over and over

And tried to find a way to take the darkness out of me

As I struggled with the conflicts of ideology

the personal demons inside of my head

I remembered the roses and cups of tea

and decided I would keep those instead

So I’m letting go of my misunderstandings

And I think it’s fine to say you are right

I can see I seemed rude

when I misconstrued

the surprise you wanted to give me

to make a beautiful memory

And so if you will forgive me

and you’re willing to still be friends

I will meet in that place with peace in my heart

and try not to argue again.

But if you feel I can’t be trusted

if you feel you can’t forgive me

I still have the roses and teacups

and the almost friends memory.
